THE WORDS WRITTEN IN RED

These are the words written in red, these are the words of Jesus.
Matthew 24:6-7

“And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famine and earthquakes in many parts of the world.”

In my lifetime alone, there have been six wars and several civil conflicts or regional insurgencies. These conflicts have spanned from Vietnam to Afghanistan, the Congo to the Middle East and beyond. Most of these wars are driven by a desire for supremacy, power, and control; disregarding the innocent lives lost in the attempts to conquer other nations. One such war was a response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on our own country. As of yesterday, following our bombing of the nuclear sites in Iran, we have become entangled in the ongoing war alongside Israel, engaged in a conflict against Iran.

The peacekeeper within me questions the necessity of fighting and killing. Why is it that it’s never enough, and they persist in their demands? Why do they seek to control others? Ultimately, in the end, on that final judgment day, only one person will be in control. However, the warrior within me recognizes that the evil must be confronted and the injustices must be resolved.

Romans 12:18
Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.

It’s not an easy task to accomplish, even amidst wars and conflicts. This past week serves as a stark reminder of the challenges involved, with protests, riots, and senseless murders. I perceived it as anger, misinterpretation, and hatred. What did all that achieve? Nothing.

I’m going to end today with a prayer for peace and words from Matthew.

Matthew 5:9 (KJV)
Blessed are the peacemakers, for the shall be called the children of God.
