WHEN DO YOU TRUST AGAIN?

Psalm 118:8
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust people.

Wow! That speaks volumes. I myself have trust issues and find it difficult to trust people easily. It takes me a long time to get close to others and let my guard down. Unfortunately, my trust in humanity has been shattered more than once. An example of losing one’s trust is to steal from them, and someone I once considered a friend and trusted did just that. They stole from us.

So, how do you overcome such a profound violation? When do you feel comfortable trusting someone and putting your faith in them? How can you ensure that they won’t let you down again? You don’t; that’s one of the gambles that we take in life: knowing when to trust or when to walk away.

So, we made a mistake by trusting someone we thought was an honest person. The Bible really stresses the importance of trust in relationships. It’s the foundation of love, forgiveness, and healthy connections. Trust is built on being honest, being reliable, and keeping your word. But when someone breaks your trust, it’s hard to forgive and restore your faith in humanity.

Matthew 7:14-15
If you forgive those who sin against you, your Heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, you Father will not forgive your sins.

But how do we forgive someone who has betrayed our trust? Do we forgive the person who stole from us, assuming they needed it more than we did, or was it simply greed? Do we forgive the partner who cheated on us, making us question whether we weren’t enough for them or if we weren’t worthy of their love? Do we forgive the person who gossiped about private information we shared with them? I know from my own experiences that yes, we forgive them. We’re mad, we’re hurting, maybe even humiliated, but in the end, we forgive.

The questions are endless as to why trusts are broken, and they are beyond our judgment. That falls on a higher power. Our responsibility is to work through forgiveness, restoring our faith in humanity, and healing from the past. It’s difficult to understand why people do the things they do, why they feel the need to hurt others by their actions.

In Proverbs 3:5 it tells us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

In putting our trust in the Lord, we can find some peace of mind knowing that he has our back.
