HOW MUCH MORE?
1 Kings 19:4
“It is enough, Lord!”
Have you ever reached your breaking point, feeling like you can’t take it anymore? Like your shoulders can’t bear another burden, especially when you’re already carrying a heavy load. According to Scripture, this is when God offers rest, sustenance, and renewed strength. Well, God, I’m waiting. Anytime now would be greatly appreciated.
The recent chain of events in my life has me feeling like I’m at this breaking point. Fortunately for us , it’s at the moment of human weakness that God understands and meets us with grace. As my husband is being loaded into an ambulance and rushed to the hospital, I’m pleading with God, “This is enough, Lord. How much more do we have to endure? How many battles do we have to fight? I’m tired, I’m weak, and I don’t know how much longer I can go on like this.” Then I’m reminded of 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” Because when I’m weak, then I’m strong.
One of the comforts during this trying time was when a friend wrapped me in their arms and gave me a moment to breathe. They reassured me that things would get better and prayed for both Steve and me. Another moment was when friends showed up with food, hugs, and prayers. And then there were the friends who came bearing gifts, ice cream—because everyone knows that ice cream makes everything better. At the end of the day, I count my blessings, which are many, and I remind myself that we can get through this, one day at a time.
We’re home now, and there are signs of improvement, and we have each other to face another day in this journey God has given us.
Isaiah 41:10
“Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
