WORKING THROUGH THE WEAKNESS

In 2 Corinthians 12:9, the Lord tells Paul, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

Since my accident, surgeries, and Steve’s passing, I’ve lost my ability to write. I felt like the thank-you cards I sent out were robotic; I don’t even recall them. Writing a devotion was a struggle. I had trouble reading the Bible, let alone extracting meaningful insights from scripture and expressing them in writing. Despite these challenges, I continued to pray constantly. There were moments when I questioned whether God was truly listening to me. In my weakened state, surrounded by a life that seemed to be unraveling, I wondered if God was aware of my struggles. And when the inevitable happened, and my world was turned upside down, even though I knew this was a blessing and he wasn’t suffering anymore, I questioned God. Why?

Each day presents its own set of challenges. Getting out of bed, facing the day, interacting with others, and hearing the words “I’m so sorry” and “how are you doing?” responses to these caring words from others were just a few of the daily struggles. And then, there are the nights. Some nights are filled with sleep, while others are plagued by restlessness that lasts for three or four hours. Despite these hardships, I am grateful for the grace of God that has allowed me to persevere despite my weaknesses.

I am gradually regaining my ability to write. I am feeling my soul being nourished by the words of our Father. I am attending church services and participating in my Bible study group. I am actively working to replenish the energy that has been drained from me.

For those who have experienced the profound loss of a spouse, your life partner, or your best friend, you can empathize with the journey I’m currently undertaking. For those fortunate enough to have avoided this heartache, I want to share that it is the most challenging experience I’ve ever encountered. There are days when I don’t know how I’ll manage to face them, but I know that with God’s unwavering guidance, I can overcome them because I know I’m never truly alone. He’s always there for me. Here are three things that I use to guide me through these difficult times: my family, my friends, and my faith. With these steadfast supports, your world will gradually begin to heal and find its balance again.

Psalm 34:17-18
17) The Lord hears his people when they call for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.
18) The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

And to close with the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:10, That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecution, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
